Day 10 - The final glorious, exhausting day!

Okay, the final push to the finish line. We started the day up in the mountains of Montserrat. Steep cliffs and buildings perched on the cliffs - it is a spectacular setting for the basilica and monastery. Our accommodations in the monastery were simple but nice.

We had a tour of the little town area and many of us rode the practically vertical funicular up almost to the top of the mountain. Glorious views! Those with stronger legs kept going uphill all the way to the top!

Then we entered the basilica and sang a couple of our pieces for the crowd assembled to hear the Montserrat boys choir perform. We did just fine and the boys performed beautifully. Such talent and training for these youngsters!

Time for a quick lunch, then back on the bus for the drive back down the hill to Barcelona.

The evening started with our final concert in a beautiful downtown Barcelona church. The pews were packed with enthusiastic people. We sang our concert, holding nothing back, and the audience loved it! They were so enthusiastic. It was really fun to chat with folks afterwards. Then off we went to our closing ceremonies dinner.

We walked through the Porta d'Avila gate and wandered through tiny narrow streets in a very old part of town to get to our restaurant. We were treated to an amazing feast of many many dishes, and free-flowing beverages. Muy delicioso!

For the final surprise, a Spanish tuna band marched in and surrounded us, serenading us! The were great! So much fun clapping and singing along.

They serenaded us all the way though the little town back to the bus.

Then off to bed for a couple of hours of sleep, and everybody headed out early the next morning for home or other destinations.

A fabulous tour of so much of Spain. A beautiful country, full of natural and historic beauty. Nice people, lovely music, good food. What more could you ask for?
