Wednesday, day 8, was a beautiful sunny day in Valencia. Palm trees, orange trees, flowers everywhere. We started off the day with a drive in to the city center and a stop at the Valencia city of arts and sciences. Innovative and creative modern architecture in an expansive outdoor space for festivals etc. The buildings, along with 9 kilometers of park area, are built in a reclaimed river bed. The river was diverted away from the central city to mitigate catastrophic flooding. Even the car park is gorgeous, with a lovely park created right over the top of it.
Then we headed to the historic center of town and walked through, learning lots about the history and culture of the area.
The central market was cool. Every kind of food you could possibly imagine - in stalls all throughout the building.
The area was filled with bars and restaurants so it was a great place for a Coke, a beer, a glass of wine, a cocktail, and some tapas. I don’t know what the rest of the choir had…
Agua de Valencia is the local cocktail specialty. Orange juice, vodka, gin, and Cava. Seemed only neighborly to try the local cuisine.
A quick change of clothes and we headed to church for our next concert. This was a joint performance with a local choir. It was fun to hear them sing for us. Our performance was pretty good, with a few unscheduled moments There is always something new every time. I tell ya, 50 strong voices singing a major chord at double fortissimo volume in a cathedral is one of the thrills of choir tour!
A late dinner back at the hotel, and off to bed. Tomorrow we wander northeast along the coast to Barcelona.
